This beautiful 3D printer belongs on a spaceship – The Verge

3D printing has got fairly tedious now, but 3D printing devices yet manage to be rad. This new combination 3D printing device, laser engraver, and CNC milling machine of Polish company ZMorph, for example, wouldn’t have looked out of place on the set of Interstellar or The Martian. It’s business-like and practical, with the flash of yellow hinting at industrial applications. Even the curved, plastic enclosure reminds me of Apple’s iMac G3, and can’t you only imagine a few next astronaut via a fewthing like this to print out spare parts on their journey to Mars? (Crazier yet, 3D printed tools in space is a fewthing that is may already happened, although it is actually in no way a regular occurrence.)
The ZMorph 2.0 SX is being billed as the “smartest way to prototype.” Interchangeable toolheads let you 3D print in plastic, metal, ceramic, and actually “thick pastes” (ZMorph suggests printing in “cake”); the CNC cutting attachment works with woods of pine to walnut, as well as plastics; and the laser engraver does foil, leather, cardboard, and plywood. The whole machine weighs 20kg, has a create envelope of 300 x 235 x 165 mm. The price starts at $2,690 but rises based on the extras you throw in. Just don’t leave planet Earth without one.
