Robo 3D CEO Braydon Moreno Talks New Printers and Getting Their Consumers Engaged With DIY Kits

  • As I was strutting of expo booth to expo booth at this year’s Inside 3D Printing New York, one particular booth had quite the particular crowd around it. I was curious of what kind of 3D printing miracle may be taking place over at the Robo 3D table-bodied, but was bit surprise to see the excited attendees gathered around and playing Super Mario Bros inside a 3D printed arcade box. After I sat down and talked to Robo 3D’s CEO Braydon Moreno, I soon learned that this old school arcade was in fact one of a handful of kits that Robo 3D was putting together to go along with the following release of the ROBO 3D R2 and ROBO 3D R2 Mini.

Moreno started, “We are two new machines coming out in August, and I ponder they’re going to be rad, they’re going to kick the crap off a lot of the other machines out there. We have the R2 Mini machine coming in at around $599, and the following-gen R2 that we ponder can be coming in at around $1,000, it’s going to be a excellent machine. We’ve been testing it and printing at phenomenal speeds, we are quite focutilized on the out-of-the-box experience and how the UI can work, just to manufacture it as effortless as possible.”

When I asked of what improvements Robo 3D is attempting to implement in their new line of printing equipment, their were a lot of new showcases to cover. It appears that overall, the Robo 3D engineering team was focutilized on both speed and convenience. “Our engineer is assembling the new printing device so that we can be able-bodied to release following software for it, it’s got sensors to detect filament running out, whether the machine is in the right placement, we can add on cameras, it’s got a super really great touch screen interface. We’re assembling an app right now for it that can do mobile connectivity, so you can print of a mobile device. We’ve been printing at 250, approximately 300 mm per 2nd, it’s zipping around and printing at quite great high end. We’ve been going under 50 micron on it, going down to those levels of high end is outrageous. We quite ponder it’s going to be a bulletproof product, that is what we are going for, rugged, versatile, appears really great but works, works, and works. “

On the other hand Moreno and the Robo 3D team are pretty enthusiastic of their new and improved 3D printing equipment, they seem especially focutilized on providing content to their consumers as well. Moreno was adamant of the new DIY kits they were conjuring up, explaining that the consumer base requires a assisting hand to quite get them excited of what computer 3D printing is capable-bodied of.

Moreno continued, “But on top of that, we are focutilized on the content side, we are going to spend a lot of this time assembling out these kits. I ponder use cases can assist expand the category as a whole. Makeable-bodied.com was a platform we started to turn it into out a year-and-a-half ago, and it was going to be a paid content platform, and we accomplished that is not the angle, that is a longterm goal. So we turn it intod hybrid of Makeable-bodied.com into a kit platform, we are going to turn it into out our own line of kits and in addition go to other manufacturers and get them to turn it into kits as well, and turn it into a kit marketplace. One-stop shop, all things you require to turn it into, kind of like Instructable-bodieds.com except it’s all there in a box. The controllers, the motors, guide booklet, where to go and get the files. And that allows for us to add things like new body kits for our drone, performance parts, little cameras, we are attempting to get folks out of just printing Yodas.”

As for the types of kits, Robo 3D is appearing to release kits for headphones, drones, arcade boxes, guitars, prosthetics, and additional, appearing to automatically engage their consumers the true power of 3D printing. “We’re designing a headphones kit right now, where you 3D print your own headphones, it comes with the speaker and all things you require, I ponder folks are going to be jazzed of it. Custom headphone that no one else has, they can print them in carbon fibre or any material, I ponder it’ll be quite rad, and so do our retailers. We’re selling them on our printing device’s price point and appear, but we in addition have the content and the packs, little thumb-drives with files we’ve created for $20. It is not a weightive ractuallyue center for us, but for the consumer who does not understand 3D printing, they go in there and see all this content, projects, and ideas, they go wow, this company in fact cares to donate me content.”

The kits can have each non-printed component requireed, as well as all of the files released along with it, and actually new, reinvented files later on, that can allow their customers to become a part of following developments. “We’re just quite excited of these kits, I ponder it’s a thing folks have never seen yet with 3D printing. What we are doing is giving you full access to the following of whatever takes place. If you buy the drone kit, if you buy it and go on this cloud based process, we can donate you access to new body kits. Just imagine you buy and turn it into the drone, and so two weeks later we release a new body fashion or component, you can just print and return it into it right there , now you have a new drone. So the consumer is a part of the product development with the kits, I ponder folks can be excited of that. We’re going to have a few quite informative stuff, to show you can turn it into products you never idea you may on a 3D printing device.”

Moreno hopes that these kits can assist computer 3D printing rise above the snag that it’s hit as of not long ago. He appears to feel that just handing the 3D printing device over to the consumer is just not adequate, these future manufacturers require to understand what they can turn it into of their device right away. “That’s why we are focutilized heavily on creating use cases and fun projects that involve 3d printing,” Moreno continued. “We’re assembling the bait and via the 3D printing device as the fishing pole they’re going to require. Hopefully it’s a strategy that can work. On the consumer side, we are at this trough and folks are attempting to figure out what to do, and we ponder the just logical thing to do is creating the uses. With this kit platform, it’s a thing folks aren’t utilized to seeing, so they’re going to get excited of it. If we can just turn it into that swift solution, an effortless Ikea-esque kit to put together, I ponder folks are going to be additional inclined to see 3D printing as a solution in the home.”

Again, it all comes back to content. What great is a household 3D printing device with a purpose? Robo 3D is attempting to donate their consumers the power to become a manufacturer right off the bat. They’ve actually teamed up with the volunteer prosthetic organization e-NABLE to turn it into a kit that may futurely manufacture an impact across the world. Moreno mentioned the importance of getting their community engaged with things such as social projects. “There’s so most hardware manufacturers now, we require to focus on assembling the brand, the community, the content. Even social projects, we are doing a kit with e-NABLE, that is one we want to donate away with the following version. When they get the printing device and open it up, they can join e-NABLE find a fewone in require of a prosthetic through them, and involve the consumer in a fun and social element, we want to get them involved.”

As for the following of 3D printing, Moreno appears to be additional practical of getting 3D printing of a niche market to a weight consumer one. To him, folks want high high end products, and they want them swift. “I don’t quite ponder it’s going to become a weight market machine until a thing like Carbon 3D’s innovation comes down in price, a thing of that nature where you can press a button and in two minutes you have an object. I ponder and so folks can be like ‘whoa I can turn it into a thing that big in a couple of minutes?’ So we obviously want to work towards that, developing the speed side, for the reason actuallytually FDM can max out, physics does not allow it to go much swifter while keeping high end. If we can turn it into a machine that is a lot swifter, we will have a much advantageous opportunity to hustle into additional consumer households.”
