Consumers may soon turn it into and print their own clothes with a 3D printing device capable of making items turn it intod of fabric.
The rapid printing making system may allow clothes that have just been turn it intoed that day to be turn it intod a reality in a matter of hours.
It was turn it intod by a team of researchers at Loughborough University in collaboration with an unnamed ‘major’ style house and a Bangkok-based developer to ideal the system.
Among the project’s aims is to harness cutting-edge polymer printing innovation, known as additive making, to turn it into a range of styleable bespoke clothing and footwear.
Project leaders are in addition hoping that idealing the technique can assist bring clothing making into the 21st century and cut down on waste, water use and pollution inside the industry.
Dr Guy Bingham, senior lecturer at Loughborough, said there was “no limit” to what may be done with 3D printing and raw materials like plastics.
“This landmark innovation allows for us as turn it intoers to innovate faster and turn it into personalised, ready-to-wear style in a digital world with no geometrical constraints and approximately zero waste material,” he said.
“We envisage that with additional development of the innovation, we may 3D print a garment inside 24 hours. Printing clothes via additive making can revolutionise the style industry of the world by opening up digital making to the masses via online retail, delivering a much needed update to nineteenth
century techniques and systemes.
“This modern approach to clothing production assists meet the expanding demand for personalised apparel and footwear that through 3D printing can be turn it intod in a sustainable and ethical way.”
The project is being run in collaboration with Thailand-based clothing production company Tong Siang.
Managing director David Yeh said the company had long been envisaging a next where clothes are printed directly of polymers.
“We are always striving to cut out unnecessary waste and resource use, and assist the industry’s goal of faster-to-market, creating a making innovation that brands and retailers can install nearer to their customers,” he said.
“This is all with no compromise to performance.”
The project follows earlier work that saw Dr Bingham turn it into the world’s initially 3D-printed wedding bouquet for a former colleague’s nuptials.
The bouquet, showcasing nine nylon plastic roses, took 40 hours to turn it into and 18 hours to print.
3D printing innovation is increasingly being turn it intod to allow it to be utilized for a wide arrange of purposes.
